ABOUT THE LOCATION
HANGING ROCK
STATE PARK, NC
Towering rock formations, cascading waterfalls, dense forests, rugged ridgelines, and panoramic mountain views create the ultimate backdrop for the Hanging Man Triathlon. Athletes will tackle steep mountain roads, technical singletrack trails, rocky climbs, peaceful lake crossings, and the flowing waters of the Dan River. From the demanding ascent to Moore's Knob to the beauty of the forested valleys below, every section brings a new challenge and a different perspective of the park.
This isn't a course built for personal records. It's built for unforgettable experiences. A rare combination of raw natural beauty, relentless elevation changes, and adventure that makes the Hanging Man unlike any traditional triathlon.
THE COURSE
It begins at the Green Heron Ale House, where the Dan River bends beneath the Sauratown Mountains. The morning mist clings to the valley, and the climb starts before the legs are ready — a sign of what’s to come.

QUALIFICATIONS
To ensure athlete safety and maintain the demanding spirit of the event, participants must meet at least one of the following within the past 12 months.
Completion of a 70.3 Half triathlon distance under 6 hours
Completion of a 140.6 Full distance triathlon under 14 hours
Official results will be required during registration or before packet pick up. Exceptions may be considered on a case-by-case basis for athletes with comparable endurance experience.
